Midmar Mile 2026

our Story

“I want to show that determination and purpose can overcome the greatest challenges, But I’m not doing this for myself. I’m swimming to raise awareness and support for others who live as quadriplegics.”

My name is Taariqa Archary and I want to share a story with you—one that started with heartbreak but is now filled with hope and purpose.

A few years ago, my life changed forever when I was involved in a car accident; caused by a drunk driver. That day, I became a quadriplegic. At first, it felt like my world had stopped. The simplest things like walking or holding a loved one’s hand; became impossible. But over time, I discovered something powerful: Even in the darkest moments, we can find light, and even from the most difficult situations, we can create something good.

This year, I’ve decided to swim the Midmar Mile. Yes, you read that right, a quadriplegic swimming one of the most iconic open-water races in the world. Why? Because I want to show that determination and purpose can overcome the greatest challenges.

But I’m not doing this for myself. I’m swimming to raise awareness and support for others who live as quadriplegics. Every day, they face incredible obstacles; physical, emotional, and financial. Many don’t have access to the equipment, care, or support they need to live full and independent lives.

That’s where you come in. Your support can change lives. Every donation, every word of encouragement helps us provide wheelchairs, therapy, and resources to those who need them most. Together, we can help others regain hope and dignity.

Swimming the Midmar Mile is no small task, but it’s nothing compared to what so many quadriplegics face daily. With your support, I’m diving into this challenge, not just for me, but for all of them.

Please, join me on this journey. Donate, share this message, and help us make waves of change. Together, we can turn tragedy into triumph and transform lives— One stroke at a time.
